BMW electric car sales doubled in the first quarter

BMW remains on track for slightly higher sales this year despite a dip in demand in the first quarter, including in the Chinese market, the automaker said.

BMW said it delivered 588,138 BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce vehicles in the first quarter, down 1.5 percent on the previous year, while full-electric vehicle sales rose 83 percent year-on-year to 64,647 vehicles.

Alpine Developing Two Crossovers for the USGREG PAJO

Renault performance sub-brand Alpine is developing two electric crossovers for the United States market, the company’s CEO confirmed Thursday.

Alpine boss Laurent Rossi told journalists on a roundtable phone call the “US is the main destination for these cars,” reports Automotive News. The first will be a mid-size electric crossover, followed by a similarly designed full-size version, meant to compete against cars like the Macan and the bigger Cayenne. They’ll be the first Renault-built cars to be officially sold in the US since the early Nineties.

BERLIN — Volkswagen Group’s software unit Cariad will establish a joint venture with Chinese technologies provider ThunderSoft for connectivity and infotainment systems in China, with ThunderSoft holding a 51 percent stake.

The partnership will develop software products for car cockpits, infotainment systems and cloud development. These are consumer-facing areas where automakers are competing to set themselves apart and retain control over valuable data on consumer behavior.

“The needs and requirements of the Chinese customers are at the center of our strategic efforts,” VW Group China chief Ralf Brandstaetter said on Thursday.
